1. Preparatory, and the rite of purification.
2. Attraction of supernatural Power (invocation of spirits).
3. Establishing a connection with the spirits.
4. Bringing the client's state into harmony.
5. Ending the meeting with the spirits and returning to normal life.
Stage 1.
It contains obligatory preparatory rituals necessary for the subsequent entry into contact with the spirits. Often, together with a shaman, a patient himself participates in them. They may include both spiritual cleansing and physical cleansing, as well as incense with sacred herbs.
Stage 2.
A shaman attracts the attention of the spirits by means of chants, prayers and various kinds of offerings. Very great attention is paid to the careful observance of rituals, because mistakes during their performance can not only nullify all the efforts of the shaman, but also anger the spirits.
Stage 3.
Establishing a connection between a shaman and his patronizing spirit occurs in two ways. Either he enters a trance and enters the world of spirits, or the spirits come to him to help (ongon). The shaman announces their arrival to those present, which is usually accompanied by unusual visual changes, strange sounds and voices.
Stage 4.
Since the cause of any disease was considered to be a violation of the harmony between man and the universe as a result of insulting one of the supernatural Powers, black shamanism or accidental violation of numerous prohibitions, in order to cure him, the shaman was required to create the necessary conditions under which the spirits would be appeased and the punishment (disease) inflicted by them would be removed from the body of a sick person. For this purpose he uses the Power of his guardian spirits, ancestors. The shaman expels evil from the client's body by chants, prayers, herbs, etc.
Stage 5.
The last stage of the shamanic ceremony has the purpose of ending the meeting with the spirits and returning to the normal life of the shaman and the client. This stage is not less important than the invocation and communication with the spirits. If the shaman, being a practitioner, finishing the ceremony, could return to normal life almost immediately, then the whole rite comes to naught and all actions and work will be just empty. And on the sick person will pile up all sorts of problems even more than it was before the rite....
